The simple answer to this age old question is “Yes, you do. In fact, we all do.”
In the beginning, the God of the Universe created Adam and Eve to live in perfect harmony with Him in a perfect environment, the Garden of Eden.
(Genesis 1:26-31)
However, this perfect harmony with God was interrupted when they disobeyed His command to not eat certain things in the Garden.
(Genesis 2:15-17)(Genesis 3:1-7)
Through their disobedience sin entered into the world, affecting all mankind’s relationship with God.
(Romans 5:12)
When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone has sinned.
(Romans 3:23)
I Didn’t Do Anything Wrong
Short Answer: Yes.
You didn’t disobey God in the Garden but once sin was introduced into the World through Adam and Eve, sin enslaved all mankind. Which is why we all need Jesus now.
So it isn’t about what you didn’t do then, but what you have done since you entered into the world that matters to God now.
John 8:34
Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave of sin.
God's Plan for Our Salvation
In this life, everyone is looking for Hope affirmed by someone’s Love.
Thankfully, God has provided us both Hope and Love through His son, Jesus.
John 3:16
For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.
Through God’s son, Jesus, we can now have a relationship with God once again.
However, we must first believe that we are sinners that need a Savior
Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.
Next, we must be willing to confess our sins; meaning to truly repent by turning away from our sins and claim the blood of Jesus that he shed on the cross to ransom us from our bondage to sin.
1 John 1:9
But if we confess our sins to Him, he is faithful and just to forgive us of our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.
Also, we must believe though Jesus did die for our sins on a cross, that He triumphantly rose again from the grave three days later, conquering Death and the Grave, so that you and I could have an everlasting life with God.
1 Corinthians 15:3-4
I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said.
Finally, you need to believe all these things with your heart and declare that Jesus is now the Lord and Savior of your life, If you do, the Bible says that you will be saved!
Romans 10:9-10
If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.
